Breakaway Advising

Leadership Principles

1. Bring joy.

We believe that joy is a choice, and not always an easy one. The consequences of that choice reverberate far beyond our personal or professional circles. Choosing joy means we can bring joy - to work, at home, and to the world.

2. We are radically honest and mindfully transparent.

We’re not afraid to say what’s on our minds, because we know our team values, accepts, and respects us for our true selves. We share the good, the bad, and the in-between in order to become better for ourselves and those we serve.

3. See one. Do one. Teach one.

We move quickly, driven by a profound curiosity. We embrace new skills and share them with others so we can all be our best. We are players and coaches.

4. Embrace inclusivity, pursue diversity, and commit to ongoing education and growth.

It is not enough to simply say “all are welcome here.” We must invite those who haven’t had a place in this space before. They have much to offer. We see you. You’re here.

5. Rebel intentionally.

Breakaway is a band of rebels; those who couldn’t or wouldn’t follow the status quo and knew there was something better. We rebel with purpose and the intention to change the world.

6. Listen openly, challenge appropriately, trust fully.

We come to every conversation with an open mind, ask thoughtful questions and challenge with kindness, and trust that our colleagues are making the right decisions.

7. We revere freedom.

We work to live, not live to work. Family and community are the most important.

8. We explore our passions.

Our passions and hobbies often lead to our best ideas at work. We encourage our advisors and our clients to pursue whatever lights them up.

9. We rise by supporting one another.

Our workplace is non-competitive. We believe that there is more than enough work to go around and rejoice in the success of our colleagues.

10. We value ease.

We constantly evaluate our technology, processes, and systems to make sure we are always working smarter, not harder.
