RBG's Legacy

“‘What is the difference between a bookkeeper in the garment district and a Supreme Court justice’? The answer? ‘One generation.’” RBG

As a CEO in a predominantly male led profession, I can’t help but wonder what we as a nation will do without the leadership and legacy of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

I am reminded of a story Justice Ginsburg  shared from when her son was in grade school and would regularly get into ‘trouble.’ As a working parent, Ginsburg grew more exasperated by demands that she come into school to discuss her son’s alleged minor transgressions. Finally, she had had enough - “I had stayed up all night the night before, and I said to the principal ‘This child has two parents. Please alternate calls.’“ After that, the calls stopped. Apparently, the principal was far less inclined to call her busy husband than he was to call her.

This seemingly simple, yet powerful, logic, calling out the equality of Ginsburg’s role as a mother and her husband’s role as a father, is how she changed our country and the world. It changed my own opportunities - both personally and professionally.

Now, along with my fellow female CEOs, I take a moment to share my deepest gratitude for the strength, wisdom and advocacy of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I remain committed to doing everything in my power to ensure that legacy continues.
